DuPont Tech & Innovation Center

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley and recently ranked number one on America’s happiest cities list, Sunnyvale, California is a beacon of innovation, attracting the world’s most promising science and tech professionals. Amidst the redwood lined streets and glimmering glass facades of this hub for progress, the DuPont Technology and Innovation Center is an open, collaborative workspace that offers team members the flexibility to experiment, learn, and play while amplifying the company’s brand as a conduit for discovery.

Informed by an imperative to support productivity and staff engagement, the design is comprised of diverse workstation typologies that allow employees to progress from informal idea generation to executive signoff and everything in between. The technology center features an open “work café” with zones that include a casual cushioned seating area, formal discussion space with a table for meetings, and recreation space with an arcade and ping-pong/foosball tables. Alternating wood ceiling planks border the multifunction zone and lead to a “maker space” where employees can display and discuss mock-ups created at the site’s lab. Futuristic strip lights illuminate shelves lined with DuPont products and prototypes, which can also be viewed digitally at the center’s display kiosk. Silhouetted against the building’s smoky entryway wall-cover, undulating parallel circuit board lines provide a dramatic backdrop for a bold Dupont logo. Outdoor features include lit signage and a motorized patio canopy complete with light and heating.

As its name implies, the DuPont Technology and Innovation Center is expressed through the lens of a progressive and tech-focused design aesthetic. This tactile workspace offers employees and visitors alike the ability to quickly move between disparate activities. From thoughtful mockup examination in the “maker space” to ping-pong in the multifunction zone, the center and its many functions sit at the cutting-edge intersection of the efficiency and imagination that put Silicon Valley on the map.
