Alarm.com
Alarm.com is a leading provider of technology and cloud based solutions for intelligently connected homes and businesses. Alarm.com engaged OTJ Architects to design a multi-level headquarters that would energize staff and inspire continued innovation through a unique focus on the enhancement of wellbeing.
The program is an artful balance of collaborative and individual workspaces, state-of-the-art engineering and testing facilities, as well as showcase areas that celebrate the firm’s achievements. Conference and private meeting rooms of differing sizes foster collaboration and cross-department interaction. In addition, reconfigurable suites located on the first floor allow for large company gatherings or boot camp training sessions of any size through nimble technology and operable partitions.
Like OTJ, Alarm.com is committed to the preservation of our natural resources. In keeping with this pledge to corporate social responsibility, designers elected to clad the central staircase in reclaimed timber salvaged from a local barn. The staircase, which connects floors eight through eleven, serves as a visual and symbolic conduit between departments and high-impact areas such as the communal pantry and reception.
From the project onset, designers worked hand-in-hand with company leadership to identify holistic acoustic, ergonomic, and lighting solutions that reduce stress, promote comfort and, ultimately, help drive creativity. Notable elements include an indoor pond and garden as well as Alarm.com’s signature Oxygen Room, which includes an array of wellness features such as an air purification system, a green wall with a trickling white noise irrigation system, and a glowing ceiling whose light patterns mirror the human body’s circadian rhythms.
